Mom & Dad – Come Riding!

In these days of cell phones and computer games, few kids interact with their siblings or parents any more. And at that rare event, a family meal, they prefer texting their friends under the dinner table rather than conversing with their relatives.
A shared activity – such as taking Horseback Riding Lessons together - is a great way to unite your family. A kid can’t text her friends while grooming, saddling or riding a horse, and some of the best conversations with my teenage son have been while riding or doing barn chores together.
Why not join your family in the fun of horse riding?
Here are two suggestions for learning How to Ride a Horse together:
1. Take group lessons at a horse riding barn.
Most horse riding stables will accommodate you by giving riding lessons to just your family members, and some will even take you on a trial ride afterwards. You will usually receive a discounted price,
Most horseback riding stables encourage family participation, and organize horse shows at the barn for its own students, once they are ready to compete.
2. Go on a riding vacation (see A Family Adventure With Horses). There are many types of horseback riding holiday available in all parts of the world.
There are horse riding vacations especially tailored to families, and suitable for beginner riders and up. If you take a few lessons together before taking your riding vacation, you can go on a more adventurous horse holiday.
There are also non-riding activities for any family members who don’t want to spend their time exclusively around horses, and some locations have kids’ supervised activities if mom and dad want to spend some time alone together.
Horseback riding will tear your nearest and dearest away from their TVs, video games and cell phones, and will bring your family together to create wonderful memories – and some great stories!
